I'm calling Day 11 "New Horizons" for two reasons. The first is that Petunia got to go ziplining for the first time!
While visiting Niagara Falls, we were blessed enough to get to stay one night at a wonderful campground called Branches of Niagara. Now, while I mentioned in my last post that going to the Falls was on the itinerary before this journey started, the fact is there really wasn't much of an itinerary at all. We weren't exactly sure when we would get to the Falls, so I hadn't made any reservations. Of course getting a place to stay at the last minute right by Niagara Falls on a Saturday night in July with extraordinarily nice weather shouldn't be any problem, right?
I have a saying that 'You never know what you might get unless you ask,' so I found a great looking, nearby campground as we were nearing, called them for a reservation and hoped for the best. After asking I got put on hold, which I took as a better sign than being laughed off the phone. She came back to say that she was having to double check, but someone else had just canceled their spot for the night, so we could have it! Hooray! We got checked in, did a quick set up and got off to see the Falls, not leaving us much time to enjoy what the camp had to offer.
Petunia saw, however, that the next morning they would have the small zipline open before we had to check out and move on, and she set her plans!
Quite a picturesque little course
She had never been before, but after doing her first ride "normally", she was trying stunts on the second!
Look, Ma, one hand! :)
Another "first" accomplished!
They even had a little time to ride before we had to leave. It was really a beautiful place, full of activities.
Day 11 is also New Horizons because it's the day we moved on to one of the very few places that we did have actual reservations before starting out; and for the first time, we were going to stay put for a few days! We arrived at Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lakes Region of central New York.
When doing some light "research" on beautiful places, I saw a picture of some waterfalls which can be seen from a hike inside this park and it was an instant must-see. For those pictures, you'll have to wait until Day 12's post. :)
In the meantime, we got set up in our new camping spot, Petunia got some of her beloved swimming time in, and we had steaks cooked over the campfire. All in all, these horizons are looking good!
This critter tries to steal my seat every chance she gets. (Not that I blamer her.)
Edited to add: Silly me! Petunia told me if I was going to call this New Horizons, I had to mention Pluto. She's right! Check it out here.
